An intrepid band of new and old birders investigated Little Uvas OSP under the combined leadership of SCVBA and OSA in the person of John Harshman and Sarah Chan. We didn't find our target bird, breeding ruddy ducks, but there were fledgling *American coots* and *mallards* on the ponds. The biggest excitement was probably the pair of *golden eagles* that soared above us for several minutes. A record six *red-tailed hawks* , three juveniles and three adults, gave many good looks. *Black-crowned night herons* and *green herons* , *California quail* , and a foraging *Hutton's vireo* were also exciting. Vinegar weed and hayfield tarweed, though not birds, stimulated the eye and the nose. And there were vast numbers of dragonflies, most of which refused to perch and be identified.
