As reported earlier, Rob Hofberg and I heard and saw (for me, briefly saw) the Red-eyed Vireo on San Jose Creek at North Patterson Avenue early this morning. I'm glad a later group had it low enough for photographs--when I was there it tended to stay very high up.
Whether one turns up the Vireo or not, it's a great place to bird right now and unusually active for August. A lot of stuff is still singing and I've had a nice complement of singing warblers on my visits: Yellow, Orange-crowned, Wilson's, and Common Yellowthroat. Best surprise yesterday (when I did NOT see or hear the Vireo), was a male Western Tanager high up in a eucalyptus tree.
