From my porch this morning I consistently hear cardinals singing. When I asked Google why, this is the interesting response it gave:
"Cardinals sing in mid-August because they are still finishing up their extended breeding season, defending late-summer territory boundaries, and communicating with their long-term mates. While many other backyard birds stop singing by August to molt or migrate, non-migratory cardinals maintain active pair bonds and can raise broods as late as August or September."
