Hi Claude,
The hummer is an Anna’s. The stout build, straight medium length bill and
the dingy grayish underparts are typical.
Costa’s or Black-chinned females / juveniles would have quite a bit of
clean white on the throat, breast and belly, plus differences in the body
shape (e.g. Black-chinneds are long and lanky with a very long bill,
Costa’s are petite with a slightly ‘dumpy’ posture and a short curved bill)
Both the latter species would be rare, though a juvenile Black-chinned
was reported
at Creekside yesterday.
