We started down the Coyote Creek Trail towards the big bridge. At the bridge area we had one male Black-headed Grosbeak, two Red-tailed Hawks (one was a juvenile), Acorn Woodpeckers, American Robin, Western Bluebird, Oak Titmouse, White-breasted Nuthatch, and saw a Great Blue Heron hunting in the field. We followed the trail along the creek and saw at least five Wood Ducks, one Belted Kingfisher, a Song Sparrow, a Black Phoebe, Northern Flicker, and a Steller’s Jay imitating a Red-tailed Hawk.
In addition we saw a fox near the trail by the visitor center. (I’m not sure which species of fox, but it was cute.)
Do not disclose information that identifies the location of nesting birds of any species, to minimize stress on the nesting birds and the risk of vandalism or abuse.
