We regularly see red headed woodpeckers in our area and last week we had one at the suet and peanut feeders. We believe it is feeding young as it only comes to the feeder in summer, seldon in fall, spring or winter . We believe it has a nest in a copse of trees killed 10 years ago by salt intrusion along Herring Creek.
We also had a pine warbler visit the suet on the same day. We know that there are year round pine warblers here but we seldom see them at feeders in the summer. I am going to research whether the same pine warblers are year round residents or if summer breeders are replaced by wintering birds from further north.
