Jane and MObirders, Two years ago we also had a red shouldered hawk come up to our porch railing. I was sitting right there, didn't move, and it sat for a good ten seconds looking at me! Our favorite bird this summer has been a scissor-tailed flycatcher with one tail feather! It is three or four blocks due east of MSSU! It flies around just fine.
