Had a LARK SPARROW at the top of Corona Heights today. Flew down towards Dolores park at 0823. This is the earliest fall SF eBird record per Dom.
Alluding to Dom’s earlier message about post breeding dispersal, we also had a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER and Dom had a handful of both BULLOCK’S and HOODED ORIOLES. I also saw a WESTERN TANAGER at Dolores. Stuff was definitely on the move overnight.
As part of doing some bird ambassadorship ( https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZAp3xjhNGC/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== ) , I reached out to the high school to tell them about the hawks and invited some teachers to bring their classes out to view the nestlings through a scope. The principal was very excited about the hawks and offered to help facilitate installation of a nest cam next year. This would be a great opportunity for engaging the local community in birdjoy, so I’m soliciting help from the birding community at large to make this happen. If anyone has any expertise on setting up nest cams or roofing/scaling tall buildings safely, please reach out!! We have a lot of time before next nesting season and we need all the help we can get.
