Today we turn a page in the calendar to August, the month when we can start to expect unusual (usually juvenile) shorebirds. Needless to say, I didn't find any today just because the calendar changed. Numbers and species were similar to yesterday's counts, but there were 2 Black Turnstones today instead of just one.
As so often happens on weekends, even early in the morning, the number of beach walkers was greater and the Tern flock was disturbed almost constantly. There were 2 Forster's Terns in the group while I was there--the same basic-plumaged adult I saw yesterday ad an adult in full breeding dress.
Black-bellied Plovers continue to dominate the beach along with Long-billed curlews.
