It is with great sadness that I am writing to let the birding community know that Ray Belding passed away on July 29th. Ray had been birding since 1966 when he took an ornithology course at the U. of New Hampshire. As a professional, he worked as a school social worker in Naugatuck. Working in education gave him the opportunity to travel extensively during vacation periods. In the late 80's he began leading trips for Caligo Ventures. First, to Costa Rica and later to places in Venezuela, Ecuador, Belize and Panama. He is a past president of the Litchfield Hills Audubon Society and had been compiler for their Christmas Bird Census from 1976 to 2021. Ray will be missed for making CBC compliations entertaining and the Wednesday's with Ray morning bird walks each May.
