Hans Kunze and I led the August 1st RBA trip to the Conesus Inlet Swamp. We had a good time with 15 participants, good weather and turning up a good number of interesting birds. A good start, as we gathered at Vitale Park, was an adult Bald Eagle, which flew low across the end of the park – the first of five eagles on the day. At the inlet swamp, from the west side board walkout we had Eagles and Ospreys, one of them flying over with a caught fish. Of special note, but brief, was a Least Bittern seen in flight. It was a particularly beautiful time today in that location early in our trip. Other special moments were searching out a singing Scarlet Tanager along East Swamp Rd., an unexpected female Bobolink at the east side pond, and watching a Kestrel interacting with a Cooper’s Hawk along Guiltner Rd.
