Subject: [Ohio-birds] Call for data for Ohio Cardinal Summer 2026
Dear Birders,
As summer is nearing the end and fall is gradually upon us, it is a good time to look for migrating shorebirds. The warblers will be coming soon. Just a few days ago I banded a Blue-winged Warbler in heavy molt. It is also time to send me your summer 2026 data/sightings. Please send your June and July sightings to:
Ron Canterbury, 1585 Summit Hills Drive, Cincinnati OH, 45255 or <ron.canterbury...>

In addition to sightings, we welcome photos, anecdotes, book/e-media/app reviews, general interest articles, and research papers. If you enter your sightings into eBird, you do not need to send a report – we download all the entries directly from Cornell. Feel free, however, to expand on items in your eBird list in a separate note to me, because I can’t look at every note in eBird.

If you attach a file (Word, Excel, ASCII text, or similar) to an email, please include your name and the season in the file name and also within the file itself. Calling the file “smith-summer26” instead of “sightings” will save me time. And digital photo files, please; send prints only with prior approval. If you post photos to FaceBook, Flickr, or the like, you can send me links to them rather than the photo files themselves. Photos and links go to Photo Editor Tom Fishburn, <tom561tom...>

The deadline is August 21. Thank you in advance. Have a great fall season!

Here is also an update on the Cardinal: I just sent the Winter 2023-2024 issue to layout. I hope to see it published this month. We continue to look for assistant editors and additional help to help me catch-up the journal. It is beyond a massive undertaking for a single editor in its current format or at least with my full-time job (doing three full-time jobs actually: academics, research, and editor [is non-paid], and are by no means pleasant at times with all three combined). **Please do not abandon the OOS, I'm trying! The science is important to keep and birds need us as much as we need them! If questions, please feel free to email me off list: <ron.canterbury...>

Ohio Senate Bill 1 and federal mandates and laws, example Title II, aimed at academics got me further behind this past spring. Were out of my control!
