This year is the first time we've heard Merlins at our house (Phinney
Ridge) and we hear them EVERY day. We know there's at least 4 since we've
seen them all together. I assume the parents are the same ones I've read
about on here that previously nested around the Greenwood Triangle. We have
a double stacked suet feeder up at the corner of our yard that gets a lot
of activity. A couple of weeks ago my wife and I were sitting outside
watching it and there were flickers, a Steller's jay, house sparrows, and
juncos either on it or waiting their turn and one of the merlins came
through at high speed and broke up the party. It didn't catch anything but
we got to see it's braking display right above our heads (wings and tail
spread wide) as it slowed down to avoid other trees in our yard. Enriching
:)
