Help us monitor Monarchs (they are sort of like birds)! The annual Vermont Mission Monarch Blitz (July 31 to August 15, 2026) starts at the end of the week and I hope some of you can visit a patch of milkweed nearby you. This is about the easiest protocol ever and anyone can do it!
All you have to do is: 1. Find milkweed 2. Verify presence of monarchs (examine each milkweed plant for eggs and caterpillars) 3. Write your observations on a field datasheet 4. Sign up at Mission Monarch and share your data
This project is part of the International Monarch Monitoring Blitz. Our aim is to contribute a snapshot of the status of Monarch populations across Vermont each year during this critical time in their life cycle. We need your help to gather this data!
The Blitz invites people across Vermont, and all of North America, to look for milkweed plants and survey them for monarch eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises and butterflies. This information helps us understand changes in breeding populations and productivity in different regions each year and to identify priority areas for Monarch conservation actions. ____________________________
