Yesterday's seawatch at La Jolla produced an almost-adult Masked Booby heading northbound around 7:30 a.m., which was then seen again a little while later passing off the mouth of San Elijo Lagoon. There's been a clear influx of Nazca Boobies into California during the past month, all the way to Northern California, but there's only been a couple Masked so far. Two Cocos Boobies flew by La Jolla yesterday, heading south, and I'm currently on Saturday morning standing on Seacoast Drive a little south of Imperial Beach Pier and have fairly quickly noted six Cocos feeding offshore. Earlier this morning I had a Pacific Golden-Plover departing the Salt Works near pond 20 and heading south to points unknown. This may be the earliest arrival date for San Diego County by perhaps a week, although there are certainly records from latter July from most counties to our north.
