Jack’s impact was worldwide. He made friends everywhere. When I went to Malaysia on my Fulbright, he fixed me up with local birders although it has been decades since he taught there. He spearheaded a campaign to donate about 20 new binoculars to birdwatchers in Malaysia. His friends in Malaysia are also saddened by his demise. Jack also gave me some Malaysian currency that he had carefully saved for many years and gave me Malaysian cookbooks to make sure I didn’t starve. What a guy.
