I have recently learned through a Fascebook marketing class I took that Facebook changed not just their algorithms but their algorithm engine in 2025 and so "likes" are no longer considered "interactions." In order for something to be considered an interaction, it must be a "save," "share, or "comment." I get this as I tend to "like" posts from pages I follow whether I actually read them or not, and eliminating likes as a filter makes it more likely that the algorithm is going to push the information to people who are actually reading it. In addition, a post sent through a Facebook page will typically only hit ~5% of the "followers" of that page. There are three takeaways from this: First, even under the best circumstances, Facebook is a poor way to communicate with followers for need-to-know information dissemination. Second, if you REALLY want to keep seeing content from pages you like, then save, comment, or share that information in addition to liking it to have a better chance of seeing more of it in your feed. Third, as Karen noted, since ~95% of the posts are going to non-followers, Facebook is better at getting new people to see the information than it is at getting followers to see it. Hope this helps.

As Dawn said, social media can be a pain with the algorithm, and finding a way to get posts seen can be frustrating. The plan will be to tone it down after a week, once we are reaching people especially non-followers.

I haven't seen them, as I don't spend much time on Facebook anymore, but getting a broader audience paying attention to birds seems like a good thing, to me.
