Subject: [Tweeters] Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) Eagle's Pride Golf Course (GC) monthly bird walk - 7-16-2026
Tweeters,
The lightning came in three bouts and the rain continued heavy at times at the JBLM Eagle's Pride GC birdwalk on Thursday for the 14 of us that started out (a few of us bailed out after about a mile+ of the route). RED CROSSBILLS and PINE SISKINS were the first this year and the 17 WOOD DUCKS were a highlight. We haven't ever cut short the usual route due to a golf tournament, but the 27-holes with 200 golfers caused a change to keep us out of the way of the many players and their errant golf shots. Because of the lightning, the tournament started late so we were able to make it almost all the way before the golfers started on a shotgun start.

From the PNW eBird report:
****

Eagles Pride GC, Pierce, Washington, US

2.9 mile(s)

Checklist Comments: Conditions: 53-61degF; lightning; rain off and on, heavy at times. The 14 of us cut the walk short by about one-third mile due to the golf tournament that had over 200 players over the 27-hole Joint Base Lewis McChord Eagle's Pride Golf Course. We skipped viewing Hodge Lake and the swallows that nest in boxes there as well as whatever waterfowl that are usually found there. The highlight for most of us were the total of 17 WOOD DUCKS found on two ponds. RED CROSSBILLS and PINE SISKINS were the first we found on the course this year.

The only mammal: Two black-tailed deer.

The JBLM Eagle's Pride GC birders meet the third Thursday of each month at 8:00AM from March-October and 9:00AM November to February. The starting point is the Driving Range building, Eagle's Pride Golf Course, I-5 Exit 116, Mounts Road Exit. (Turn left immediately after entering the parking lot to take the road leading to the driving range building.)

Upcoming walks include the following:

* August 20

* September 17

* October 15

Everyone is welcome!
