Not a lot going on that’s unusual, just the relaxing duties of raising a crop of young turkey vultures, which the parents would surely assure me wasn’t particularly relaxing. For the most part I hope it’s just enjoying our lovely summer weather. Turkey vultures are pretty much spread out in the summer except for some roosting areas. The short report today is from Washington.
JUNE
01 -- Four turkey vultures over Wenas Road at 13:10, Yakima County; two near the Bluebird Trail near Ellensburg at 16:41and two at the Ellensburg Ponds along I-90 at 17:36, Kittitas County.
02 -- Two at Salt Creek County Park at 11:43, Clallam County.
04 -- Two over Homestead Lake, north of Moses Lake at 14:45, Grant County; five at Freshwater Bay at 12:50, Clallam County.
11 -- One turkey vulture soaring over Jeffeson County airport at about 11:00.
16 -- One along Hwy 97 near Pateros at 16:33 and four along HwY 97 near Malott at 16:59 Okanogan County.
17 -- One over Beth Lake near Chesaw at 16:34, Okanogan County.
18 -- Two along Hwy 97 south of Omak at 10:18, and one along Hwy 97 near the mouth of the Okanogan River at 10:46; one long Hwy 97 just west of Dryden at 13:15, and one along the Teanaway River at 13:40, Chelan County.
30 -- One along Hwy 97 just south of Swauk Campground at 15:51, Kittitas County.
Thanks for the reports and keep an eye out for roosts and for young birds in the coming weeks (with dark heads).
