I just saw the bird that I believed was a Brandt’s cormorant preen under its wing and show its gular pouch in the sun, which was fairly bright yellow. I’m surprised I didn’t see any hint of this yellow color in the previous ten minutes I watched the bird preen. Additionally, a DCCO walked over and stood right next to this bird, and the size difference wasn’t as large as it appeared from the other position. So, this bird must be just an unusually small Double-crested Cormorant with wet head and neck feathers that made the head and neck appear more narrow like a Brandt’s Cormorant compared to the other, already dry Double-crested Cormorants on the levee. Good to learn a lesson!
FWIW I am 100% confident about the red knots on A9
