The wood stork, this afternoon, was hanging out in or near the wetland on the north side of Great Neck Road (Rt 213) just west of the entrance to Harkness Memorial State Park. Around 4 PM it was chilling in the yard of a private home but was easily seen from the road. There is room to stand beyond the guardrail off the road. Traffic is not crazy and many folks driving by are slowing down to see and ask what we were all looking at. There is a small parking lot on Great Neck Road just east of the park entrance road that is convenient for walking to the where the stork was this afternoon. For those from out of state, you can avoid entering the park and getting charged a fee - look for viewers at the guardrail along the north side of the road. But if necessary, you can walk into the park from this lot, too, if the stork is further south in Goshen Cove. Sheila Gleason East Haddam, CT
