All,
Prior to publicizing these trips more widely, I wanted to remind local birders of a couple of upcoming pelagic trips bring run by Island Packers out of Ventura:
August 13: Santa Barbara Island Booby Colony pelagic. This 9 hour trip visits the Cocos Booby colony on Sutil Rock off Santa Barbara Island. BF Booby is typically present and there is a reasonable (30%) chance of other booby species. The run down is good for storm-petrels and Craveri's Murrelets, with a decent chance for jaegers, SP Skua, Sabine's Gulls, shearwaters, etc.
August 15: 12-hour pelagic typically out to deeper water towards San Nicolas Island, although it depends on sea conditions. The traditional target on this trip is Cook's Petrels, that have already been reported in good numbers in the state this year. BF Albatross is pretty much guaranteed and there is a chance of RB Tropicbird. This trip is good for SP Skua, jaegers and a wide range of storm-petrels and shearwaters.
For those of you interested in county listing potential, both trips generally spend some time in both VEN and SBA counties.
Dave Pereksta and others will be leading both trips as I have a conflict with booby pelagic.
These trips are filling up, especially the August 15 one, so I would recommend reserving a space soon if you want to go.
