It was a lovely summer morning for birding. Fourteen of us met at the Abbot Loop Trailhead and immediately heard many birds singing from the surrounding trees. A short walk led to views of wetlands with many Veeries vocalizing as well as Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Pine and Northern Yellow Warblers. We briefly ventured toward the Pinnacles into an almost silent forest with some very interesting plants, then on toward another wet area where we saw a Northern Harrier flying in the distance, as well as an Alder Flycatcher, a juvenile Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and a Veery in the trees. Many thanks to Jody Enck for keeping the eBird list. Seven of us enjoyed breakfast at the outdoor seating at Danby Food and Drink. Next week we will meet at 7:00 am at Allan H. Treman State Marine Park (Hog Hole) for more birding. Meet in the parking lot beyond the dog park, near the west side of the marina.
