Who among us doesn't keep lists? Life list? Country list? State list on
down to parish and yard? I've kept lists of birds that I've seen even
before my husband and I moved into our current residence in old Metairie in
1970 . . . and I've regretted not keeping a list earlier than that . . .
OCD anyone?
Well, over the years, listing has been everything from casual to manic,
mostly manic. I recall LOS once 'sponsoring' a yard list challenge. No, I
think the year was 1990 or 1991. Anyone recall?
Of course, the more one tallies, the less there is to tally though we've
added more species to the Louisiana list. I was pleased to add a flyover
Limpkin to my yard list while having morning coffee in 2025. What more can
one hope for???
On 5 July, very unexpectedly, I looked out of the back window of my office
AND, THERE WAS AN ADULT PURPLE GALLINULE!!! Score.
It didn't show the next day, so I thought it was indeed a fluke, but I've
gotten brief views every day since.
Maybe LOS should have another yard list challenge for 2027?
