If you are like me, and go birding in WMAs, but don't hunt or fish, and also like me, over 65, it looks like the way to go is to obtain the fishing license, which is $10.50 one time for life (if over 65). (I just obtained it over the phone). It will go with my federal Golden Age Passport, which was $10 for life in 2008 ($80 now). The $10.50 seems like a pretty good deal, at least in Northwest Arkansas City, where $10.50 will get you a burger and fries. The burger and fries puts fat on the old waistline. The $10.50 permit helps keep public these important public places. Around NWA, I am especially fond of McIlroyMadison County WMA and Frog Bayou WMA. Both are great birding destinations.
