Recently, I have had several people ask that question. It reminded me of when Judy was teaching and her students would ask "when do you watch birds". Judy's answer was usually 24/7 or when we are awake and even sometimes when we're sleeping. I started thinking about our birding plans when it's 90 degrees out. So, we drove 10 miles to my father-in-law's house. He has 2 huge mimosa trees in his yard. They are taller than the house and in full bloom. We enjoyed the fragrance of the flowers, the shade and a cool breeze. Here's our bird list between noon and 1:00 - 6 mourning doves, a ruby-throated hummingbird, 3 chimney swifts, a red-shouldered hawk, a red-bellied woodpecker, a Carolina wren, 4 American crows, 2 European starlings, 5 American robins, 3 house sparrows, 5 house finches, 4 American goldfinches, a song sparrow &:2 northern cardinals. Very comfortable birding, indeed Jim & Judy Phillips Summers County Pipestem, WV
