Could the bird seen by Jane have been a Caspian Tern? The description of a long-winged gull-like bird with black tips could fit Caspian as well.
With regards to Morris sightings on the coast, looking at eBird, there are reports today of Morris at Pillar Point both before and after Jane's sighting.
