Subject: [ia-bird] Not a sighting - Carnegie Museum, Fairfield
I spent the weekend in Jefferson County/Fairfield for the Iowa Barn
Foundation spring tour.

I visited the Carnegie Library/Museum and was very impressed by all of the
exhibits on the third floor. There is a wonderful display of over 400
taxidermy birds from the turn of the century. Something else I learned that
was fascinating, but sad, is there was a 185-foot light tower on the town
square from 1882-1910. Unfortunately, during migration, hundreds of birds
were disoriented and crashed into the tower. Local birders William and
Carrie Ross would gather the dead birds for identification.

If you are traveling through Fairfield, I recommend visiting the Carnegie
Museum.
