Some fun finds at Ed Levin Sandy Wool this morning. As I was driving in, the Caspian Tern was circling the lake. An Ash-throated Flycatcher that we heard on Tuesday was back near the dog park. Then, walking up the hill I ran into a guy with a big camera who told me he had seen a Blue Grosbeak up near the windsock off the Tularcitos trail but encouraged me to look along the trail anyway because it had been making visits to lower areas. (That was good because I was not about to climb all the way to the windsock!) A little way past the green cattle gate, I heard the distinctive chirp. First, I saw a female in the thistles on the left side of the path. which soon took off for higher ground. But I still heard the chirping and found a beautiful male who hung out for about 5 minutes before following the female. I got a few distant blurry but unmistakable pictures. Thank you to the gentleman who shared!
