We stopped briefly today at Bear Butte Lake. The lake has receded further since our last visit. South entrance was closed, but from the North RV area we found on the lake only a few coots and no other waterfowl.
We continued to have lots of activity at our feeders 1.5 miles south of Whitewood with 19 species at the feeders or along the creek. Highlights include Indigo Bunting, Western Tanager, Rose-breasted and Black-headed Grosbeaks and a Western Wood Pewee 6/23. The Black-headed Grosbeaks are the most resourceful and have learned to feed on our hanging suet stick, feed upside down on our upside down suet block, dine at the hanging feeders and eat grape jelly we put out for the Tanagers. We still have a Great Blue Heron flying along Whitewood Creek and Turkey Vultures flying overhead at times.
