Movie Night: Bird Names
Join us for a special evening organized by the Feminist Bird Club of Twin Cities Metro to welcome environmental justice coordinator and educator - Tykee James. We will be enjoying a screening of the documentary, "Bird Names," which features Tykee! He will also lead a Q&A session about the film after the showing with Sushma Reddy (Curator of Birds, Bell Museum, and Secretary, American Ornithological Society), and Kassie Ford (Curator of Fishes, Bell Museum, and Co-Founder of Black Birders Week).
Bird Names Bird Walk
Join us for an incredibly special event at the beautiful Mississippi Gateway Regional Park. We are so grateful and excited to welcome Tykee James all the way from Colorado. Tykee was recently featured in a groundbreaking new documentary called "Bird Names," where the question is asked: Why do birds still carry the names of people who "discovered" them? What is a bird-centric name? What colonial, racist, and sexist legacies do these names hold and promote? Following the screening of the documentary "Bird Names," we will go forward with our new knowledge and questions and enjoy a day of birding together.
