Subject: [mou-net] Birding about the Metro
Yesterday I led a MRVAC field trip on the state forest trail off of
Collischan Road outside of Red Wing. Birds were great and despite the
gorgeous calm weather, there were almost no mosquitos. We had more Cerulean
Warblers, Wood Thrush and Scarlet Tanagers along the trail than I can
remember in any time in the last 20+ years that I have birded here. Wood
Thrush and Ovenbirds were not singing. We also found Acadian Flycatcher and
a cooperative Yellow-billed Cuckoo. We documented breeding of WT
Nuthatches, Baltimore Oriole, and Wood Thrush. All feeding young.
To find the unmarked parking for the trailhead, look for a turnoff to the
left just past the houses and just before the gate to close the road if the
water is high.
