We have two guinea pigs, one short-haired and one long-haired, who shed a lot of hair and live on and in polarfleece cage liners and "muffs" (little tunnels) instead of disposable bedding. These are laundered every week, and after removing them from the washer there are little balls of felted hair left behind. The "long" hair is about three inches or so and the shorter about one inch. The balls seem to contain both long and short hair.
I stuck a handful of these in an unused suet cage and hung it outside a couple of months ago next to the bird feeders. It looks like some bits have been pulled out, but we haven't "sold out" of this product, so I guess guinea pig hair isn't the most popular nest material.
