I swung by the Lucerne Overlook in Cayucos this morning. Especially notable were the many thousands of Double-crested and Brandt's cormorants, many hundred Heerman's and Western Gulls of all ages and a hundred or so Brown Pelicans, a few still in breeding plumage. All of these species were observed either directly off shore, loafing on the rocks and on the shore below. The only shorebirds seen were 4 Willets and one Greater Yellowlegs that flew in to the cove, foraging briefly along the rocky coast line.
