We have 5 bird houses and a few nesting platforms about our property in Bradford. This year four of the houses have been occupied with tree swallows, bluebirds, chickadees and house wrens. The platforms (boards nailed under the eaves of some outbuildings) have been used by robins and phoebes.
The chickadees, who are surprisingly secretive, raised and fledged their brood about 7 days ago. The bluebirds fledged their brood early this week. The swallows fledged on Wednesday or Thursday and the phoebes fledged sometime this afternoon (I can hear the fledglings calling in the woods behind our house). The robins seem to be on a second brood, after building nests in a small pine, a lilac and a hawthorn bush.
