It turns out that there are at least 2 fledglings that survived whatever opened up the nest box last night. We are not sure if they were forced out too soon or not. Hopefully they will survive. The nest was still intact in the box so I closed the lid and will try to find a pole etc. today.

Your problem is a raccoon, and they can get around most baffles, even those called raccoon baffles. Wild Bird has some and if there is not a store in Fort Smith, you can order online. The real solution would be to get a large live trap from places like Tractor supply and trap and move the animals causing the problems. This will continue to happen over time. Often there is an entire family visiting your yard. I catch and moved the raccoons 6 miles to a forested area and across the Lake to further slow their return. My raccoons have gone over squirrel and raccoon baffles. You can also improvise using heavy duty metal electrical conduit or galvanized plumbing pipe and a round wood heater pipe section or PVC pipe section. They will also tear up bird feeders. I can afford the seeds, but replacing the feeders is a problem I do not wish to keep doing.

I wish you well in your solution.

We bought a home near Ozark at the end of May. The sellers had a nest box on a pole but they took the pole and attached the box to a cherry tree. Bluebirds have been actively using it but last night some critter opened and emptied the box 😔 . Is there a place in Fort Smith or Ozark that sells a pole and baffle? We would like to get the box set up in a way that they can use it to safely raise some baby birds.
