Hello All,
We have a few American Kestrel nest boxes that were donated to us and we are looking for new hosts in Addison County.
We are looking for sites with a minimum open area, ag field or meadow, of 1 acre (though more is preferred), with known kestrel pair activity.
Hosts must be willing to install the boxes on a post in the middle of the open area. Unfortunately we are unable to provide the post, but if you can source and install one, we can provide and mount the box free of cost. The boxes need to be at least 8' off the ground and most folks use a 4x4 post sunk into the ground a few feet.
Ideally a host can check in the box once per week during the breeding season, but if not a VINS staff member or volunteer will be able to take on monitoring.
The installation of these boxes will make them available for potential use during next year's breeding season.
If you have an ideal site that is not in Addison County you can still apply at the link and we can get in touch about how you can get involved in the project and host a box at your property.
Best birds,
--
