Subject: [NHBirds] "Changes in Massachusetts Bird Populations" talk in Newburyport on Tuesday, 6/23
Gino Ellison and the group "Friendly Birds and Brews" will be hosting a
talk on the changes of bird populations in Massachusetts. Although the
talk is about Massachusetts, many of the changes certainly apply to NH! 
A $10 per person "donation" is suggested. There will be raffle prize as
well.  The event will be held at the
RiverWalk Brewing Company, 40, Parker St, Common Pasture, Newburyport,
MA.  It will be held on 6/23 from 5 PM to 7 PM.

Wayne Petersen is an important figure in Massachusetts birding. Wayne is
Mass Audubon’s Director of the Massachusetts Important Bird Areas (IBA)
program. Wayne has led tours, lectured, and conducted birding workshops
across North America for more than 35 years. His tour-leading
experiences have taken him throughout North America, from the Arctic to
Antarctica, to various destinations in the Caribbean, Central and South
America, Cuba, Iceland, Svalbard, 5 African countries, Madagascar, the
Seychelles, Australia, and New Zealand.

Wayne was a founding member of the Massachusetts Avian Records
Committee, a past President of Bird Observer magazine, and he is
currently a New England Regional Editor for North American Birds and the
New England Christmas Bird Count, and he serves on the advisory
committee for the Massachusetts Natural Heritage & Endangered Species
Program and the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary.

His writing projects include authoring the American Birding
Association’s Field Guide to Birds of Massachusetts, the National
Audubon Society’s Pocket Guide to Songbirds and Familiar Backyard Birds
(East), and coauthoring Birds of Massachusetts (with Richard Veit) and
Birds of New England (with Roger Burrows), and co-editing the
Massachusetts Breeding Bird Atlas 1 and 2. Wayne also contributed to The
Audubon Society Master Guide to Birding, The Sibley Guide to Bird Life &
Behavior, and Arctic Wings. In 2005, Wayne was the recipient of the
American Birding Association’s Ludlow Griscom Award for outstanding
contributions in regional ornithology. He is especially interested in
seabirds and shorebirds, and he derives great satisfaction from sharing
his knowledge of the natural world with his fellow colleagues.
