Below are birds I’ve seen and/or heard over the past two months. Unless otherwise noted, the lists are from my yard.
The Cedar Waxwings have been feasting on the mulberries. Great Crested Flycatchers and house wrens have been quite vocal around the neighborhood. I also heard a pewee and Red-eyed Vireo in my yard on a few occasions. A couple Rose-breasted Grosbeaks (a male and a female) stopped by the feeders. At least three hummingbirds are visiting the feeder. The bluebirds and catbirds—along with others—have been regulars at the suet. The Chimney Swifts are twittering overhead once again. A White-crowned Sparrow popped by the feeders on May 9.
Birding at a friend’s house (south of Lake Monroe in Lawrence County) got me both Summer and Scarlet Tanagers, a few warblers, kingbird, vireos, Acadian Flycatcher, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Wood Thrush, and more. And I’ve experienced—would I say vicariously?—a whip-poor-will singing in real time while talking with my friend on the phone in the evenings.
