The Sioux Falls Bird Club will hold its June field trip this coming Saturday the 6th. We will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the Outdoor Campus East (4500 S Oxbow Ave) to organize carpooling, and then proceed to Newton Hills State Park. We'll do some slow walking (perhaps a mile total distance) from the horse camp on the C and D trails, which are a fairly flat mix of gravel, grass, and dirt. These trails may be a bit muddy with recent rains and more forecasted this week. For those who do not wish to walk as much, bring a lawn chair and we can organize a stakeout group to hang out at the picnic shelter near where the D trail crosses the paved road (see Picnic Shelter 5 on this map: https://gfp.sd.gov/userdocs/newton_trails.pdf (https://gfp.sd.gov/userdocs/newton_trails.pdf)), as there can be lots of birds in that area as well.
We will also perhaps check out Lake Lakota and the boy scout camp area, and plan to be back to the OC around midday. You do not need to be a club member to attend, all are welcome.
