Hello everyone,
A few days ago an American Oystercatcher was found in the Morro Bay area. Since then it has been photographed and reported quite a few times to Ebird. Looking at the photos, it appears to have a exceptionally splotchy breast / belly demarcation and a reduced amount of white in the secondaries.
I have no experience using the Jehl Index but think this may represent a pretty strong American- Black Oystercatcher hybrid or intergrade.
I would really appreciate the opinion of others more experienced than I with American Oystercatchers regarding this bird.
