Subject: [sbcobirding] Weird birds
All,

WIth the NW winds the last couple of days, I have done a fair bit of birding. Refugio Canyon continues to be almost devoid of migrants. I didn't see a single definite migrant yesterday despite really good conditions and today I heard just a single pewee and saw a couple of Willow Flycatchers.

I checked a number of wetland locations yesterday and was very surprised to find a Red-throated Loon on Area K. 2 WF Ibis were more expected. Today I checked the SYRE after Refugio and there was little of interest with just a bunch of long-stayers - a WF Ibis, a GW Teal and 6 Bonaparte's Gulls. There are still a bunch of avocets and I found one on a nest. I think the river is starting to block up but there is still some flow to the ocean. No sign of the Least Terns yet.

A check of Devereux yielded another surprise in the shape of a Pelagic Cormorant hanging out in the grass by the roadside. I called the WIldlife Care Network in the hope they can pick it up.
