Birders,
Swinhoe's White-eye and Pin-tailed Whydah have now been accepted
unanimously as established naturalized species by the CBRC, and both
species are now placed on the CBRC's official California state list.
These additions bring the California list to 695 species, of which 19 are
established introductions.
Swinhoe's White-eye (*Zosterops simplex*) is placed on the California list
in the family "Zosteropidae - White-eyes, Yuhinas, and Allies" following
Wrentit.
Pin-tailed Whydah (*Vidua macroura*) is placed on the California list in
the family "Viduidae - Whydahs and Indigobirds" following Northern Wheatear.
Packages recommending acceptance of these two species were prepared by the
CBRC's Introduced Birds Subcommittee following CBRC's policies and
procedures about naturalized species. [See by-laws section VI-B-8 at

The CBRC does not attempt to determine which California counties have
established populations of these (or other) non-native species; such
determinations will be up to county compilers for NAB, county eBird
reviewers, or others.
