We have had new arrivals at our feeders 1.5 miles south of Whitewood and today had 17 species at the feeders. New arrivals include Indigo/Lazuli Buntings, and Western Tanagers. Usually the Buntings continue on, but this year are staying around. So far we have not had any Orioles. The Cowbirds are also coming to the feeders and we observed one of the Cowbirds being fed by a Black-headed Grosbeak. (Some listserv recipients may not be aware of Cowbirds behavior who throw the eggs of a nesting bird out of the nest and then lay cowbird eggs on the nest). When the eggs hatch the nesting bird treats it as their own and feeds it.
Our neighbor across Crook City Road has a Lewis's Woodpecker coming in.
