Subject: Third Repeat Location for Painted Buntings
At S. Bluestem Pkwy. just southwest of W. 107th Ter. in Olathe (38.9319285, -94.8775133), I found a painted bunting today, 5/19/2026. It was a gorgeous male that glowed in the afternoon sun.
Two photos, taken at 4:48 p.m. may be viewed here:

I checked this site on 5/11/2026 and a week earlier. However, no painted bunting showed up. It seems the painted bunting's arrival at this site was later than at two other locations in Johnson County (see tabulation below).

1. 5/9/2026* S. Bluestem Pkwy. @ Cedar Creek Pkwy. (38.929593, -94.879272)
2. 5/10/2026 Lone Elm Industrial Park. (38.854698, -94.841282)
3. 5/19/2026 S. Bluestem Pkwy. @ W. 107th Ter. (38.931928, -94.877513)
*Note: 5/9/2026 was the date reported by Steve Phillips. I confirmed the sighting there on 5/11/2026.
All three locations harbored painted buntings last year. I find it fascinating that this species repeatedly returns to the same haunts, but not necessarily on the same date.
