As has been happening here for the last several years I'm seeing rose-breasted grosbeaks every day, and usually off and on all day, both males and females, either singly or together. I hope no one thinks I'm exaggerating when I say that I've identified at least 10 and probably more different males. Two have white spots on their heads, two others have white lines behind their eyes, three different ones have brown wing feathers, etc. And the red on their chests varies tremendously from one to another. Other species recently seen include the following: an adult male scarlet tanager looking brilliantly red and black in the afternoon sun; an adult great-crested flycatcher; a northern waterthrush on the lower creek: an eastern kingbird in the yard: a pair of thrashers also in the yard: and four nighthawks going south instead of north. Also, almost all the nest boxes David has put up are occupied, Two have bluebirds, four or five have tree swallows, one has a house wren, and one has a chickadee. Good birding to all.
