Hello CV Birders!
Black-chinned Sparrow is a bit of a nemesis sparrow for me, and I would
really like to find one. Given the gas situation, I am trying to minimize
my driving, so I am trying to stay closer to home. I noticed recent
sightings of BCSP in Shasta County, hotspot is here:
My plan is to camp at Manzanita Lake the night before, so that I can be at
the hotspot at dawn.
I am requesting information about the hotspot, and any tips for finding BCSP
there, such as more specific locations. I noticed in recent reports that
the birds were singing, so I hope to get there before they settle into
nesting and go quiet. Can anyone tell me the usual window for them to be
singing?
I camp in a Toyota minivan that has a ground clearance of ~6.5". Would my
van be able to handle the road conditions there? Is there a better place to
camp, instead of at Manzanita Lake?
If you have any advice about the spot, other spots for BCSP that aren't too
far from Citrus Heights, or have any other information about the area, I
would appreciate hearing from you.
