Yesterday afternoon I found a beautiful Yellow-throated Warbler while birding at the American Creek Rec Area in Chamberlain. This southeastern U.S. species is reported about twice a decade in South Dakota so I am thrilled to have stumbled upon it. After hiding in the bushes for a bit, it came out into the open for great looks. Much different than when I've usually tried to see it in its bottomland river forest habitats, where it hangs out at the very top of giant sycamore and cottonwood trees, usually heard but not seen.
