Hammond's Flycatcher (Empidonax hammondii) (1)
- Reported May 07, 2026 11:28 by Wim van Dam
- Figueroa Mtn.--Pino Alto Rd., Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.9814131&<ll...>,-119.9814131 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S334133614 - Media: 7 Photos
- Comments: "A quiet empidonax that is either a Hammond's, Dusky, or a Gray Flycatcher. Input from other birders did not unambigiously resolve this. Among the three options, Hammond's is, a priori, the most likely given the location and date. This bird did move its tail up and down at various points, but I was not able to use this pro or con the tail dipping of Gray. The bill is dirty coilored underneath, and not as clean as one would expect on Gray's. This leaves me with Dusky or Hammond's as two options. Zooming in on the primiaries the gaps between the outer primaries are b ig, favoring Hammond's over Dusky."

Briefly sang 4 times in quick succession, and then went silent. The songs were close together and the bout was very brief, so missed documenting via a recording. However this bird has been well documented with recordings and photos since first reported by Hannah Cox on May 5th. Song, a very distinctive rapid burst of scratchy, buzzy notes ending on a quick, down slurred note."
