Yesterday afternoon we flushed a single willet from the edge of our largest wetland pond in the prairie.
I find this interesting and a reminder of the freezing weather of May 3rd, 2013 when a group of at least 9 birds appeared to be stranded by the freezing temperatures. They would occasionally get up and fly around, then settle back in on the vegetated edge of the pond.
Here is a photo from 2013 and the single bird from yesterday.
